ARS PTSA Bylaws Proposed Changes

The proposed bylaws changes, documented in the links below, were presented to the PTSA general membership on October 14th. We will vote on the proposed changes at our next PTSA General meeting, on Tuesday, Jan. 13th, 2015 from 6-7PM in the ARS Cafeteria.

Saturday workday a success

Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped on Saturday, October 25th to work on beautifying the front of the school. We planted 2 new trees, removed some dead and invasive species trees, built a rock lined addition to the front entryway and mulched & tended to the existing trees.

Join us for our next workday on Saturday, November 22nd, from 9-12. We will doing some fall tree maintenance and continuing our work in the front area of the school.

Student Enrichment Fee

It’s not too late to join the Ann Richards PTSA and pay your Annual Student Enrichment Fee of $60.00. We appreciate those who have already paid and are now part of our 400-member organization.

If you haven’t yet paid this year’s fee–or would like to make an additional donation–forms can be found in the school office, on the PTSA bulletin board opposite the library, or on our website (click on the flyer, upper right corner of this page). Cash, checks, and money orders can be sent through your daughter’s advisory.

The Enrichment Fee helps fund school events, programs and resources for our amazing ARS Stars.

“The World would be a better place if…”

The Reflections program recognizes students at the Local, Council/Region, State and National PTA levels. At each level, all entries are judged on interpretation of the theme, creativity and artistic merit.

ARS Students are encouraged to submit entries for any, or all, of the six art categories. Last year we had eight student entries, let’s double that number this year and show the true talent we have at ARS.

AISD Trustee Candidate Forum on October 19th

The AISD School Board will be changing soon with 5 new Trustees to be elected on November 4th (early voting starts Oct. 20th). There are 16 candidates vying for these important positions that will help to shape the future of our school district, and the ~85,000 students and 128 campuses served. Show your support for ARS and let our Trustee candidates know that we care.

The Parents and Friends of the Liberal Arts and Science Academy and the Kealing Magnet Advisory Group would like to invite you to attend our 2014 AISD Trustee Candidate Forum on Sunday October 19th at 4pm in the LASA library. PFLASA has hosted these forums in past years, with great response from candidates and parents.

To accommodate the different needs of our various grade levels, we are running a different schedule tonight.  Find your daughter’s grade level below:
8th Grade Families
6:20-6:30             Meet in Cafeteria for class meeting (Teacher intros, 8th grade calendar overview, College Advising staff)

6th-12th Grade Families
6:40-6:45             Meet daughter’s advisor in their room and get your daughter’s schedule  (Advisory lists on wall)
6:50-7:50             Visit classrooms of your daughter’s teachers     (Room #s on schedules)

Volunteers needed for BookFair

Our fall book fair is right around the corner and we need a few (okay, several) great parents to help out. This year we are beginning the fair on Friday, September 12th and ending on Thursday, September 18th to avoid conflict with our Great Day of Service. Family night coincides with our Back to School on the 17th, so make sure to spread the word.

We are setting a goal of $1300 in profit to support book clubs and other library activities, and we need your help to pull it off. If you can help out, please sign up using the instructions below.
